as good. Don’t compare them to a mask worn in the ER or medical services. Those things are professionally made and for single use only!
Single use is a big issue for hygiene and obviously you won’t use the loop just once.
Still it’s hard to argue against wearing a loop, facemask or even a scarf in public to protect yourself and others. It most probably will help prevent a droplet infection.
